Stafford Muslim Community Centre (SMCC) – Membership Summary

  1. Purpose of Membership

SMCC membership exists to give Muslims in Stafford a structured way to:
• Participate in the spiritual, educational, and social growth of the community.
• Support the charity’s objectives through active engagement and contributions.
• Elect trustees, influence decisions, and strengthen community ownership of the Centre and Mosque.

  1. Eligibility
    • Any person who declares Shahadatain (the Islamic declaration of faith) is eligible to apply.
    • All applications are subject to approval by the Board of Trustees.

  1. Membership Limit
    • The governing document sets a limit of 50 members, unless the members vote to increase this through an ordinary resolution.

  1. Membership Classes & Rules

The trustees are empowered to define:
• Classes of membership (e.g., Standard, Family, Youth, Honorary).
• Rights and privileges of each class.
• Entrance fees, annual subscriptions, or donations expected from members.
• Conditions for renewal or termination of membership.

  1. Meetings & Representation
    • Members are entitled to attend Annual and Extraordinary General Meetings.
    • Notices for meetings must be announced at two consecutive Friday prayers and issued according to Charity/Company law.
    • A minimum of 10 members or one-tenth of all members (whichever is higher) must be present for quorum.
    • Members can vote on key matters such as trustee elections, policy changes, and resolutions.

  1. Member Responsibilities
    • Support the charity’s aims and abide by its constitution and policies.
    • Contribute to the spiritual and financial growth of SMCC (through volunteering, donations, or events).
    • Uphold respectful, inclusive conduct within the Centre and wider community.
    • Notify the trustees of any change in contact details.

  1. Financial Commitment
    • Members’ liability is limited to £10 in the event the charity is wound up.
    • Membership fees or subscriptions (if any) are determined by the trustees.

  1. Communication
    • Key updates and meeting announcements are delivered in person during Friday prayers and electronically (email/WhatsApp).
    • Members should ensure they are part of the official SMCC communication channels
